Queensland Motorways commenced its operations as the Gateway Bridge Company in 1980. In 1987 the Logan Motorway Company was formed, followed by Port Motorway Company in 2002.
Today, the above companies are subsidiaries of Queensland Motorways Limited, established 1995 which operates the Sir Leo Hielscher Bridges, the Logan Motorway and the Gateway Extension.
In 2011, the State Government transferred ownership of Queensland Motorways Limited to the State's Defined Benefit Fund as managed by QIC Limited. It operates under a 40 year Road Franchise Agreement with the State.
