Free-Flow Tolling

This is how go viatag works
You simply attach a small tag, an electronic device that holds personal, vehicle and account information, to the inside of a vehicle's windscreen.

As the vehicle travels under the toll point the go viatag will beep. The go viatag sends a signal via radio waves to an antenna held in an overhead gantry. This antenna reads the information on the go viatag and sends it to data processors at the Queensland Motorways head office where the toll is then successfully deducted from the go viatag account.

When a go viatag is issued to a customer, it is programmed to match the correct toll according to the class of vehicle, i.e. a car, truck, or other heavy vehicle.

How do you know a vehicle has travelled through the toll point?

Technology is positioned on overhead gantries at toll points along the motorway. It calculates your toll by either:

  • A go viatag - this is attached to your vehicle's windscreen and reads roadside information from radio frequency transmitters
  • go viavideo - an image of the vehicle and registration plate number details are captured

This system of cameras and sophisticated technology identifies what type of vehicle you are driving, and the relevant toll amount, and matches this against our database.

Did you know that by 2012 there will be six major toll roads in Queensland?
Currently, Queensland toll roads consist of Queensland Motorways' Gateway, Logan and Gateway Extension motorways. Visit our road network map to find toll plaza locations.

The Clem7 Tunnel opened to traffic in March 2010 and the Go Between Bridge opened on 5 July 2010.

Future toll roads

Airport Link due for completion in 2012 will connect the CLEM7, Inner City Bypass and local road network at Bowen Hills to the northern arterials of Gympie Road and Stafford Road at Kedron and Sandgate Road and the East-West Arterial in the city's north-east.

Our go viatag is suitable for all toll roads in Australia.

Please see our road network map to see where the Airport Link will be located.
